Quick-disconnect terminals are work-saving devices that help make carbon brush replacement faster and simpler. The terminal system consists of two parts.
The receptacle is a silver-plated copper piece containing a heat-treated stainless steel spring, which applies pressure to the brush connector. It is threaded into the hole that holds the bolt on the holder. The brush connector is fabricated as part of the brush, and is also silver-plated. To connect the two parts, insert the terminal blade into the receptacle mounted on the holder. The snap-fit connector is strong and provides an excellent electrical connection. Compared to conventional connections, they provide several advantages:
- No tools are needed to make or break a connection.
- There is no hardware to remove or install. This eliminates stripped threads and damaged screw heads.
- There are no loose parts to fall into the motor.
- It’s much easier to remove and replace brushes in hard-to-reach spaces.
- Less time is required to inspect or change brushes.
The mounting posts replace the brush terminal mounting studs on the motors and generators and are available in straight, 45 degree and 90 degree configurations with a variety of thread sizes.
