High-Speed Turbines Power U.S. Energy Independence
The U.S. barriers to energy independence are both technological and regulatory. This has manufacturers of power generation products investing in equipment using both fossil fuels and renewable energy. One method of power generation, high speed turbines, uses fossil or renewable sources. Natural gas, oil, water and wind come to mind.
Energy Efficient Gas Turbines
Manufacturers including Siemens, General Electric and ABB, are innovating with more efficient turbines. GE published a white paper on its new high-efficiency 7FA Gas Turbine line in July 2011. A report in the Australian National News Wire in August announced that General Electric is pledging $10 million to fund its "ecomagination challenge" to businesses, entrepreneurs, innovators and students.
Turbines occupy a large footprint in a plant. Inside the large high-speed power generating turbines are unseen small parts that conduct electrical current between stationary and rotating parts. The performance of these parts can help reduce operating costs like fuel and high-turn inventory, especially replacement parts.
Carbon Brushes for Slip Ring Applications
Marlton, NJ based REPCO (Replacement Electrical Parts Company) focuses exclusively on several products like carbon brushes, a small but critical component in conducting electrical current between the stationary and moving parts common in turbines.Repco offers carbon brushes from the original manufacturer as well as its own private label lower-cost alternatives for slip ring applications. REPCO is also a well-known provider of electrical replacement contacts. REPCO published an article in August on carbon brushes for utilities where turbines are used.
Count on manufacturers and alternative suppliers to enjoy the growing cost-saving interest from investors and entrepreneurs with power-generating ideas that will fuel the industrial marketplace.
